Ripped tracks are saved in your Windows Music folder by default, unless the destination was changed in Windows Media Player’s Rip settings.^1^
Locate the ripped tracks
- Open File Explorer.
- Select Music in the left pane.
- Look for a folder named after the album or artist.
- If the tracks are not there, select This PC and search separately for:
-
*.mp3 -
*.wma -
*.wav
-
Windows Media Player can rip tracks in MP3, WMA, or WAV format, so the files might not be MP3 even though the ripping operation completed. Searching from This PC performs a broader search across the computer and connected drives.^2^
Check the destination and MP3 setting
In Windows Media Player Legacy:
- Insert the audio CD.
- Maximize the Player window.
- Open Rip settings.
- Check the configured save location.
- Select Rip settings → Format → MP3.
- Rip one track again and check the configured folder.
Changes to format and audio quality apply only to tracks ripped afterward; Windows Media Player cannot use this setting to convert tracks that were already ripped.^1^
If the new test track still produces “could not save conversion,” note the complete error message or error code and the configured destination folder. Those details are needed to distinguish a save-location problem from a format or codec error.
