Real-time voice or video communication between users on mobile devices or computers
You cannot add new calling credit to a Microsoft Teams Free account; Microsoft no longer sells Skype Credit or other paid Skype calling products to new customers, and Teams Free has no paid calling plan.^1^
If you still have Skype Credit
You can continue calling until that existing balance is exhausted:
- Open the Skype Dial Pad.
- Sign in with the same Microsoft account previously used for Skype.
- Enter the telephone number and select Call.
Alternatively, in the latest Teams Free app:
- Desktop: Select Settings and more (…) → Skype Dial Pad.
- Mobile: Tap your profile picture → Skype Dial Pad.
The option appears only when the signed-in account has active Skype Credit, an active subscription, or another qualifying active Skype paid service.^2^
If the balance became inactive rather than reaching zero, open Skype My Account from the Dial Pad prompt and reactivate it. Then reopen Teams Free. If the balance is zero, it cannot be topped up because automatic top-up and new Skype Credit purchases are no longer available.^1^
If this is a work or business Teams account
Ask your Microsoft 365 administrator to check the calling plan and organization balance. Business calling requires Teams Phone with PSTN connectivity, such as a Microsoft Calling Plan. If the organization ran out of calling minutes, an administrator can configure Communication Credits and assign the required licenses; this is not available for a personal Teams Free account.^3^
