Using older versions of Outlook for Mac for personal email and calendar
Because your Outlook calendar is connected to Gmail, create the meeting in Microsoft Teams and paste its joining link into the Outlook invitation; Teams meeting integration in Outlook for Mac does not support IMAP or POP accounts such as Gmail.^1^
Create and send the meeting
- Install or open Microsoft Teams on your MacBook Air.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account associated with your Microsoft 365 subscription.
- In Teams, select Meet.
- Select Create a meeting link, enter a title, and choose Create and copy link.^2^
- In legacy Outlook, open Calendar → Meeting.
- Enter the attendees, date, time, and subject.
- Paste the Teams link into the invitation body, then select Send.
Alternatively, schedule the full event in Teams. Open the meeting afterward and select Copy invite or Share Link, then paste it into an Outlook calendar invitation.^3^
Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscriptions support scheduled Teams meetings, so a business subscription is not required for this workflow.^4^
Why Teams is absent from Outlook
On macOS, Teams integration is built into supported Outlook account configurations rather than managed through the Windows COM Add-ins menu. Outlook for Mac supports creating online meetings for Microsoft 365/Exchange and Outlook.com accounts, but not for IMAP or POP accounts. Therefore, subscribing to Microsoft 365 does not add the Teams control to events created on a Gmail calendar.^1^
If you later add a supported Microsoft 365/Exchange or Outlook.com calendar to Outlook:
- Legacy Outlook: Open Calendar → Meeting → Teams Meeting.
- Current Outlook for Mac: Open Calendar → New Event, then enable the Teams Meeting toggle.
The event must be created on that supported calendar—not the Gmail calendar—for the Teams option to appear.
Legacy Outlook for Mac support ends in October 2026, so moving to the current Outlook for Mac is advisable, although switching versions alone will not remove the Gmail account limitation.^1^
