Hello Microsoft Support Team / Community,
I am experiencing an issue with Microsoft Sentinel Logic App playbook permissions in the Microsoft Defender portal.
Environment:
Microsoft Sentinel integrated with Microsoft Defender XDR
Sentinel workspace: law-sentinel-prod
Azure resource group: HighTempEcom
Two active Logic App playbooks in the same resource group
Issue Description
In Microsoft Defender → Microsoft Sentinel → Settings → Playbook permissions, the resource group HighTempEcom shows Missing permissions, despite the required Azure RBAC role already being assigned.
When I try to update the permissions using Configure permissions, the operation fails with:
Failed to update Logic Apps permissions: 1
When I try to remove the existing resource group permission through the portal, I receive:
Service principal not found for application ID: 58131f34-bef7-4935-999e-0c16b96a1de9
1. Azure RBAC verification
I confirmed that the following role assignment exists:
Service principal: Azure Security Insights
Application ID: 98785600-1bb7-4fb9-b9fa-19afe2c8a360
Object ID: df6dc350-0ff7-4a3d-89de-6b3c00466412
Role: Microsoft Sentinel Automation Contributor
Scope: HighTempEcom resource group
I also confirmed that my administrator account has Owner access to the resource group.
2. Role reassignment
I removed and reassigned the Microsoft Sentinel Automation Contributor role to the same Azure Security Insights service principal.
The role assignment completed successfully, but the warning remained.
3. Service principal verification
I executed the following Azure CLI commands:
az ad sp show --id 58131f34-bef7-4935-999e-0c16b96a1de9
Result: Service principal not found.
az ad sp show --id 98785600-1bb7-4fb9-b9fa-19afe2c8a360
Result: Azure Security Insights service principal found successfully.
4. Playbook execution verification
Both Logic App playbooks are located in HighTempEcom.
Existing playbook executions have succeeded.
No related failed operations were identified in the Azure Activity Log.
The permission warning continues to appear in the Microsoft Defender portal.
Assistance Required
Could you please clarify:
What Microsoft application or service does Application ID 58131f34-bef7-4935-999e-0c16b96a1de9 represent?
Is this a required Microsoft-managed service principal for the current Microsoft Sentinel playbook permissions model?
Is there a supported procedure to restore or provision this service principal if it is missing?
How can I resolve the Missing permissions warning when Microsoft Sentinel Automation Contributor is already assigned correctly?
Could this be a known issue with playbook permission management in the unified Microsoft Defender portal?
I would prefer to resolve this without recreating existing Logic Apps or disrupting operational security automation.
Any guidance or documented resolution would be appreciated.
Thank you.
