Accessing Microsoft Teams Free using personal or organizational credentials
For a personal Microsoft account without two-step verification, submit the recovery form directly; for a work or school account, reset it through your home organization’s password-reset service or contact that organization’s IT administrator.
If this is a personal Microsoft account
For an Outlook.com, Hotmail, Live, or other personal Microsoft account:
- Open the Microsoft account recovery form.
- Provide a separate working email address where Microsoft can contact you.
- Complete the form from a device and location previously used with the locked account.
- Supply as much historical information as possible, including old passwords and details about Microsoft services associated with the account.
- Microsoft sends the result to the contact address, normally within 24 hours. If verification fails, the form can be submitted up to twice per day.^1^
This applies only when two-step verification is not enabled. If two-step verification is enabled and none of the registered verification methods is accessible, Microsoft states that support cannot reset the account or change its security details.^1^
The two forms address different situations:
- Account recovery form (ACSR): verifies ownership when normal sign-in or password recovery is unavailable.
- Account reinstatement form: reviews accounts locked for suspicious activity or possible Terms of Use violations. Microsoft normally exposes this through the
aka.ms/...link on the lock screen. After submission, Microsoft Online Safety reviews it; ordinary support agents cannot replace that review or manually alter the account.^2^
Because your lock page does not display that reinstatement link, use the recovery form above if eligible, then open Microsoft’s public support page and select Personal account → Get Help/Contact Support. Support can diagnose routing or a missing appeal option, but cannot bypass account verification or issue an unlock directly.^3^
On Windows, another unauthenticated contact route is:
- Open the Get Help app from the Start menu.
- Enter
Account recovery has been blocked AADSTS7005106. - Select Contact Support if offered.
- Choose the affected Microsoft account or Teams category.
- Select chat or callback, depending on availability.^4^
Include the complete error text, AADSTS7005106, the time it occurred, and state explicitly that the page provides neither Prove you’re human nor an aka.ms/... reinstatement link.
If this is a work or school account
If the address belongs to an employer, school, or another Microsoft Entra organization:
- Open https://passwordreset.microsoftonline.com/.
- Reset the password using the security methods registered in your home organization.
- Retry the Teams invitation after the reset.
This works only if the home organization enabled self-service password reset. If the portal cannot proceed, contact the IT administrator for the organization that owns your account—not only the organization that sent the Teams invitation. If a B2B guest is blocked because of account risk, remediation occurs in the guest’s home directory; the inviting organization cannot dismiss that risk itself.^5^
Since Incognito mode and the standard recovery instructions have already failed, further browser clearing or repeated sign-in attempts are unlikely to provide a different escalation path.
