A web-based tool in Microsoft 365 that enables users to quickly create surveys, quizzes, polls, and feedback forms.
Use Microsoft’s Sign-in Helper first because “account doesn’t exist” means the username must be identified or recovered before the temporary lockout can be resolved.^1^
1. Check the account username
- Open the Microsoft Sign-in Helper.
- Enter the Gmail address used for the Microsoft/Minecraft account.
- Follow the result shown by the tool.
- If that address is not recognized, try another alias or phone number previously added to the same Microsoft account. Carefully check the spelling of the address.^2^
A Gmail address can be used as a Microsoft account username, but access is recovered through Microsoft—not through the Gmail password.
2. If the account is found but remains blocked
The “too many incorrect password attempts” message can result from repeated attempts, someone entering the wrong email address, or an issue involving the browser, device, or network. Microsoft directs persistent cases to the Sign-in Helper.^3^
Use the recovery option presented by the helper:
- Request a security code using an available recovery email or phone number.
- Enter the code under Verify your identity.
- Create a new, unique password.
- Sign in to the Microsoft account with the recovered username before trying Minecraft again.^2^
Avoid repeatedly retrying passwords while the account is blocked.
3. If no verification method is available
Complete the Microsoft account recovery form using:
- A working email address where Microsoft can contact you.
- A device and location previously used with the account, if possible.
- Old passwords and any requested Xbox information, including the hardware ID of a frequently used console.
Microsoft normally sends the recovery result to the contact email within 24 hours. If verification fails, the form can be submitted up to twice per day.^4^
If two-step verification was enabled and none of its registered verification methods remain accessible, support cannot bypass it or manually change the account details. Support agents also cannot send a password-reset link directly.^4^
If the Sign-in Helper still reports that the correctly entered username does not exist, use the contact support option on Microsoft’s username-recovery page and state that the Microsoft account username used for Minecraft has stopped working.^2^
Do not post the full email address, password, security codes, purchase details, or recovery answers in this public forum.
