Your school’s Microsoft 365 administrator must require MFA re-registration for the @taalim.ma account; neither the student nor a forum agent can reset authentication methods for an organization-managed account when no registered verification method remains accessible.^1^
Contact the school administration, teacher who issued the account, or the official taalim.ma IT/helpdesk channel. Send this request:
I have lost access to the phone number registered for MFA on my @taalim.ma account. Please open my user in Microsoft Entra ID, select Authentication methods, and choose Require re-register MFA.
The new-number registration fails with “We ran into a problem.”
Correlation ID: [GUID]
UTC timestamp: 2026-10-17T16:56:01Z
Please review the authentication registration and sign-in logs for this event and escalate through the tenant’s Microsoft 365 support channel if necessary.
Do not post your password, verification codes, full telephone number, or identity documents in a public forum.
Administrator procedure
An administrator with at least the Authentication Administrator role should:
- Sign in to the Microsoft Entra admin center.
- Go to Entra ID → Users.
- Select the affected student.
- Select Authentication methods.
- Select Require re-register MFA and confirm.
This removes the registered phone numbers, Microsoft Authenticator registrations, and software OATH methods, then prompts the student to register a new permitted method at the next sign-in.^1^
The administrator should also inspect the Entra audit logs under the Authentication Methods service. Registration failures are recorded there, including failures to register, delete, review, or change security information.^2^
After the reset:
- Sign in again with the
@taalim.ma account.
- Complete the new security-information prompt.
- Register the new Moroccan number using the correct country code, or choose another method permitted by the school.
- Add a backup method if the school’s policy allows it.
The available methods are controlled by the organization’s security policy; a student cannot enable a method that the tenant has disabled.^3^
If another verification method is still available
Only if the sign-in page offers a working Authenticator, alternate phone, or other method, use it to access the Security Info page and add the new number before removing the old one. If all methods point to the inaccessible phone, skip self-service changes and use the administrator reset above.^4^
If the error continues after the reset
Changing the selected country to the USA does not establish the cause and should not be used unless the phone number is genuinely a US number. Since browsers, devices, and networks have already been tested, repeat attempts are unlikely to add useful evidence. Excessive registration or code requests can itself cause a temporary verification block, so stop repeated attempts while the administrator investigates.^5^
The administrator should then:
- Check the Entra sign-in and authentication-method registration logs around the supplied UTC timestamp.
- Check Microsoft 365 Service health for a relevant incident.
- If no incident explains it, open Microsoft 365 admin center → Help & support → Contact Support. Only the tenant administrator can open and manage this organization-level case.^6^
- Include the correlation ID, UTC timestamp, affected user principal name, tenant ID, browser type, error screenshot, and the applicable log result. These identifiers allow support engineers to locate the failed transaction.^7^
For the scholarship deadline, contact the scholarship office immediately and request an alternative submission method or deadline accommodation while the school administrator restores access.
