Microsoft Rewards app asks me to subscribe to Game Pass Ultimate even though I already have it

Hello,

I have an active Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, but the Microsoft Rewards app on Windows says I need to subscribe to Game Pass Ultimate to use a subscription-related offer or complete a task.

My subscription and Rewards app are associated with the same Microsoft account. Why might the app not recognize my active subscription? Is there a way to refresh the account sync or fix this?

I’ve already tried:

  • [Closing and reopening the app / signing out and back in]
  • [Updating Windows and the Microsoft Rewards app]
  • [Add any other steps you’ve tried]

Thanks for your help.

Because you already aligned the accounts and completed the sign-in and update steps, repair the Rewards/Xbox-related app first, then reset it only if repair does not refresh the entitlement.

    1. Repair, then reset the affected app

    On Windows 11:

    1. Open Start → Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
    2. Find Microsoft Rewards. If the offer appears in the Xbox app instead, select Xbox.
    3. Select More options (⋯) → Advanced options.
    4. Select Repair.
    5. Open the app and test the offer.
    6. If it still asks you to subscribe, return to Advanced options and select Reset.

Repair attempts to fix the app without removing its data; Reset returns it to its default state and may remove local app data. Some apps do not expose these options.^1^

If reset does not help, uninstall the affected app and reinstall it from Microsoft Store → Library. This is Microsoft’s documented fallback for Store-delivered apps.^2^

    2. Check the separate Store and Xbox identities

Even when Rewards shows the expected account, the Xbox app on PC maintains a Microsoft Store account and an Xbox profile/PC gaming account. Game and subscription benefits come from the Store account, so inspect both account entries in the Xbox app and ensure that the Store account is the personal Microsoft account that owns Ultimate.^3^

This is more specific than checking only the Rewards app’s displayed account. Ultimate is associated with the Xbox account, and the account dashboard’s Services & subscriptions area is where the subscription status can be checked.^4^^5^

    3. Distinguish a stale entitlement from an ineligible offer

Check these two places after the reset:

    • Microsoft account dashboard → Services & subscriptions: Ultimate should show as active.
    • Rewards dashboard: Check whether the task is currently offered and available for the account/region.

Rewards offers and earning/redemption availability can vary by market, while Xbox Rewards activities are presented through the account’s current Rewards experience.^6^^7^

If Ultimate is active but only this specific task remains locked, the available public information does not establish whether the task has additional eligibility conditions or whether its backend entitlement is stale. Avoid a VPN/proxy or changing account region while testing: Rewards policies restrict location masking and earning across multiple countries.^8^

    4. Escalate the correct side of the issue

If Services & subscriptions shows Ultimate as active after repair/reset, submit a request to Microsoft Rewards Support and include:

    • A screenshot of the locked offer and its exact name.
    • A screenshot showing Ultimate as active, with personal and payment details hidden.
    • Windows version and affected app version.
    • The date/time and country/region where the task was attempted.
    • Confirmation that Store, Xbox, and Rewards use the same personal Microsoft account.
    • Confirmation that repair and reset did not refresh it.

Microsoft directs unresolved Rewards issues to its Rewards Support form.^9^

If Ultimate itself is missing or incorrect under Services & subscriptions, use Xbox Support instead, because that is a subscription-entitlement issue rather than only a Rewards-offer issue.^10^
