There is no in-place migration path from Beta 26H1 to 26H2 through the Insider channel selector.
26H1 is on a different Windows core than 24H2, 25H2, and 26H2. Because of that:
- Devices on Windows 11, version 26H1 cannot update to the next annual feature update in the second half of 2026.
- In the Windows Insider Program, if version 26H1 is installed, going back to the 25H2/26H2 build requires a clean reinstall of Windows.
- On retail devices that shipped with 26H1, 25H2/26H2 is not offered as a selectable core version.
That is why no 26H2 option appears under Settings > Windows Update > Windows Insider Program > Advanced options on Beta 26H1.
What is supported:
- Stay on 26H1 and continue receiving monthly security, quality, and feature updates.
- Wait for a future Windows release that provides an update path for 26H1 devices.
- If moving to the 25H2/26H2 development core is required now, use a clean reinstall of Windows. Risk: a clean reinstall can remove apps, settings, and data unless everything is backed up first.
Also, 26H2 general availability applies to eligible Windows 11 version 24H2 and 25H2 devices with Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available turned on. That rollout does not mean 26H1 devices can switch over directly.
