Unable to access Microsoft Teams due to Microsoft Authenticator error

2026-10-15T21:12:40.9966667+00:00

I am currently unable to access my Microsoft Teams account because the system prompts me to open the Authenticator App to complete the process. However, when I open the app I am unable to complete the verification process, which prevents me from confirming my identity and proceeding with the Teams Sign-in.

thank you for you support

    Hi MARIA,

    I hope you're doing well.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble signing in to your Microsoft account.

From what you've described, it sounds like your Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) setup may need to be reset. Because you're using a work or school account, the MFA settings are managed by your organization's IT administrator. Unfortunately, this isn't something that can be reset from the user side.

I'd recommend reaching out to your organization's IT administrator and explaining that you're unable to sign in because you're stuck between Microsoft Teams and the Microsoft Authenticator app and are no longer receiving authentication prompts or codes.

You can specifically ask whether they can:

    • Reset your MFA settings
    • Require MFA re-registration
    • Remove your existing Authenticator registration so you can set it up again

You may also want to share the following Microsoft article with them: Manage authentication methods for Microsoft Entra multifactor authentication - Microsoft Entra ID | …

If you are unsure who your IT administrator is, you can refer to this official Microsoft guide for assistance: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support

Once your IT administrator resets your MFA registration, you should be able to sign in again and go through the Microsoft Authenticator setup process from the beginning, including scanning a new QR code on your device.

I hope this points you in the right direction. If you receive any updates from your IT team or run into any issues along the way, feel free to reply back with more details and I'll be happy to help further.

    Best regards,

For a Teams sign-in blocked by Microsoft Authenticator, use this order:

    1. In Teams, select the Sign in banner or button again and complete any prompts, including MFA.
    2. If no sign-in window appears, check the taskbar notification area near the clock for the Teams icon with a badge, then open it.
    3. If it still does not open, quit and reopen Teams, then try signing in again.
    4. Make sure the device has a working internet connection.
    5. Verify the device date and time are correct. Incorrect date and time can block access to secure sites and cause sign-in failures.
    6. If the organization requires a specific network or VPN, connect to that network before opening Teams.
    7. Avoid switching between networks while Teams is open.
    8. Update Teams to the latest version from profile picture > Check for updates.
    9. On Microsoft Authenticator, make sure the app is unlocked, notifications are enabled, the app is updated, and the device has network access. If authentication still does not complete, switching between Wi‑Fi and mobile data can help.

If the issue continues, this usually requires help from the organization’s IT admin. The admin can review the sign-in problem and, if needed, reset or require re-registration of MFA methods so Authenticator can be set up again.

If repeated sign-in attempts were made, Microsoft Entra multifactor authentication may temporarily block more attempts. In that case, wait and try again later, or use a different MFA method if one is available.
