An Azure backup service that provides built-in management at scale.
Hello rahul Gaur,
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A,
A resource group can’t be deleted while it holds a Recovery Services vault that still has dependencies. The vault itself can’t be deleted while it contains backup items (including soft-deleted ones), registered servers or storage accounts, or private endpoints.
Clean it up in this order:
- Go to the vault, then Properties > Security Settings. Turn off Soft Delete and Security Features. If Multi-User Authorization is on, get approval first.
- Go to Backup items. For each item, select Stop backup, then Delete Backup Data. Type the item name (case sensitive) when prompted.
- Check that no items remain in the soft-deleted state. If any do, restore them and delete them again. See Delete soft-deleted backup items permanently.
- Go to Backup Infrastructure. Unregister any protected servers, backup management servers and storage accounts.
- Go to Settings > Networking > Private access. Remove any private endpoint connections.
- If you used Azure Site Recovery, remove the replicated items too.
- Delete the vault, then delete the resource group.
Since this is a learning vault and you don’t need the data, there is a faster way. On the vault Overview, select Delete > Delete using PowerShell Script, then Generate and Download Script. Run it in PowerShell 7 or later. It disables soft delete, deletes all backup items, unregisters servers and storage accounts, removes private endpoints, and deletes the vault. This is destructive and can’t be undone.
If soft delete was still on when you deleted the items, they are kept for 14 days before being purged. Either follow step 3 or wait for that period.

If it still fails, share the exact error message, and I’ll narrow it down.
