Dear Nguyen Thi Le,
Under Microsoft’s System Builder Licensing rules, the existing Windows 11 Pro OEM license remains valid after the motherboard replacement, provided that specific conditions are met:
Defect/Repair Purpose: The motherboard replacement is being performed specifically to repair a hardware failure, not as an upgrade.
Manufacturer-Approved Replacement: The replacement motherboard is the same make/model (or an equivalent replacement approved by HP under warranty or repair policy).
Re-activation Steps
If Repaired by HP or an Authorized Service Center:
If the repair is conducted by HP or an authorized technician, they will typically inject a new digital product key into the replacement motherboard’s BIOS/firmware.
- If Repaired In-House or Out-of-Warranty: If the replacement board does not automatically activate Windows, you can reactivate it using the original product key:
- Go to Settings > System > Activation.
- Select Change product key and enter the original 25-digit OEM product key.
- If automatic activation fails due to a hardware hash mismatch, select Troubleshoot and choose "I changed hardware on this device recently" (signing in with the Microsoft account associated with the device if prompted).
