Zoom doesn't work no matter what I do

I have followed all suggestions provided and nothing works. The ZOOM group is completely grayed out so I can't even use that. My document is in vertical view. What is left for me to do?

    The Vertical versus Side to Side page movement option was going to be my first suggestion. Since you have already looked at that, we can obviously rule it out. :-)

    Maybe some other option than Vertical has been activated by mistake. Could you show us a screen shot of your Word window? The View tab would be especially interesting, but generally which tabs are shown might also be relevant.
