Accessing Microsoft Teams Free using personal or organizational credentials
For a personal Microsoft account used as a guest in another organization’s Teams, the lock must be cleared on the Microsoft account first.
- Try to unlock the Microsoft account by signing in at https://account.microsoft.com.
- If sign-in fails, use the Microsoft account sign-in helper: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2269719.
- If the sign-in flow does not show Let’s prove you’re human, the account was locked for suspicious activity or a Terms of Use violation. In that case, select the aka.ms/ link shown in the lock window and submit the account reinstatement form.
- After submitting the reinstatement form, wait for the Microsoft Online Safety support agent to contact by email. Do not submit multiple requests, because that can slow the response.
- If Teams keeps prompting for sign-in after the account is restored, sign out of all Teams sessions, close the app, then sign in again and complete any prompts.
- If access is still failing after the personal account is unlocked, ask the host organization to resend the guest invitation. Guest access in Teams is managed in the host organization, and the guest identity is separate from the home account.
Important details:
- A Microsoft account and a work or school account are different account types, and guest access can depend on the host organization’s setup.
- Support agents cannot directly change account details or send password reset links unless the proper account recovery or reinstatement process is completed.
- If the host organization has blocked external access through tenant restrictions, only that organization’s administrator can unblock it.
