How to fix Outlook email

I am having difficulty viewing all of my emails that I am receiving. If I log in on the web I can access my email which is great but I don’t get notified. However when I try to access outlook on my phone or iPad in the app none of my newer emails are visible. My last email in the app is shown from a month ago.

I have deleted the app, removed my account then logged back in, and reset the account countless times on both devices and I have yet to see my newer emails.

If someone could help that would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Jaz,

Thank you for sharing the details of your situation.

Since your recent emails are available in Outlook on the web, your mailbox appears to be receiving emails correctly. The issue seems to be limited to synchronization with the Outlook mobile app.

As the same issue occurs on both your phone and iPad, and you have already reinstalled the app, removed and re-added the account, and reset the account multiple times, I recommend contacting your school’s IT administrator or Help Desk.

Because this is a school-managed account, they may need to check whether your account or devices are affected by a mobile access policy, Microsoft Intune, device compliance requirements, or Conditional Access. They can also check whether the mobile device connections associated with your account need to be reset from the administrative side.

When contacting them, please mention that:

    • New emails are visible in Outlook on the web.
    • The Outlook app on both your phone and iPad only shows emails from approximately one month ago.
    • You have already reinstalled the app, removed and re-added the account, and reset the account several times.

This information should help the school’s IT team investigate the issue more efficiently.

I hope this can be resolved for you soon. Should you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to share them in the comment below. I'm very happy to help.

Since Outlook on the web shows the newer mail, the mailbox itself is working and the issue is with the mobile clients syncing.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Force close and reopen Outlook on iPhone and iPad.
      • This is the first reset step for incomplete or incorrect data.
    2. Reset the account again from inside Outlook.
      • Open Outlook > Settings > select the affected email account > Reset Account.
      • This refreshes the account data on the device.
    3. Make sure Outlook mobile is fully updated.
      • Recurring password or sync issues can happen when the app’s security standards have changed. Installing the latest Outlook mobile version is the recommended fix.
    4. If the account was changed recently, delete and re-add it once more.
      • This is specifically recommended when account settings are no longer importing correctly after an account change such as a primary alias change.
      • In Outlook mobile: Settings > select the affected account > Delete Account.
      • Then add the account back so the proper settings are imported.
    5. If mail is missing only in Outlook.com, check mailbox filtering on the web.
      • Check the Other tab.
      • Check the Junk Email folder and Junk Email settings.
      • Check whether email forwarding is enabled.
      • Check whether any rules are moving or hiding messages.
      • Check message sorting with Filter > Sort > Date.
    6. If the account is added to the iPhone/iPad default Mail app instead of Outlook mobile, re-enter the password there.
      • Go to Settings > Mail > Accounts > select the Outlook account.
      • Open Account Settings or the Password field.
      • Enter the correct password, tap Done, then open Mail and confirm sync.
    7. If sign-in prompts keep appearing, use the Microsoft sign-in helper for personal accounts, or password reset/IT admin help for work or school accounts.

Because deleting/re-adding and resetting have already been tried many times, the most relevant next checks are:

    • update Outlook mobile,
    • verify web filtering/rules/forwarding,
    • confirm whether the account is in the Outlook app or the Apple Mail app,
    • and if the issue started after an account change, delete and re-add the account once using the current account details.

If the issue is only in Outlook for iOS and iPadOS after those checks, use Outlook mobile > Settings > Help & Feedback > Contact Support.
