The Help tab in classic Outlook is inoperative. Anyone else encounter this problem?

    Hi DPA,

Could you clarify what happens when you select the Help tab? For example, does nothing happen at all, does the Help pane fail to load, or do you receive an error message?

In the meantime, please make sure that both Windows and Office are fully updated, then restart the computer and test the Help tab again.

You can also try opening classic Outlook in Safe Mode:

    • Close Outlook completely.
    • Press Windows key + R.
    • Enter outlook.exe /safe, and then press Enter.
    • Check whether the Help tab works in Safe Mode.

If it works there, an Outlook add-in may be interfering with the ribbon. Please let us know the result, along with your Outlook version and build number, which you can find under File > Office Account > About Outlook.

You can refer to Microsoft’s guidance here: Open Outlook in Safe Mode. Thank you so much for your understanding.

For classic Outlook, a nonworking Help tab is not covered directly, but these supported troubleshooting paths apply to Outlook UI issues and startup-related faults:

    1. Check whether Outlook is blocked by an open dialog box. Press Alt+Tab and look for any confirmation window that is waiting for input.
    2. Check the Outlook status bar to see whether it is busy with a long-running process. If so, wait a few minutes.
    3. Install the latest Windows and Microsoft 365/Office updates.
    4. Start classic Outlook in safe mode:
      • Press Windows+R
      • Run outlook.exe /safe
      • If Outlook works there, disable COM Add-ins in File > Options > Add-ins > COM Add-ins > Go
      • Clear the add-in check boxes, then restart Outlook normally
      • Do not choose Remove; disable only
    5. If the issue continues, create a new Outlook profile and test with that profile.
    6. Repair Outlook data files with scanpst.exe if corruption is suspected.
    7. Repair Office from Control Panel > Programs and Features. Try Quick Repair first, then Online Repair.
    8. Run a Get Help troubleshooter for classic Outlook. The startup troubleshooter and advanced diagnostics troubleshooter are available on Windows 10 or later and must be run on the same PC as classic Outlook.

If the Help tab failure is isolated to one command and Outlook otherwise works, the most likely supported next step is testing in safe mode and disabling add-ins one at a time to identify whether an add-in is interfering with the ribbon.
