Accidentally removed old hotmail alias after changing primary, how to restore?

I changed my primary username from my old hotmail.com address to a new outlook.com address. After that, the old hotmail address disappeared from my account's usernames list. I did not intend to remove it. When I try to add it back, "Add an existing email address" says it is part of a reserved domain, and the "Create a new email address" option only offers outlook.com and outlook.co.id (no hotmail.com). How can I restore my old hotmail.com address as an alias on my account? Is there a way to contact an agent for this?

I am sorry. It is gone and can not be recovered.

This is a huge hole in Microsoft Account Security that many, people have fallen into. I realize that this will be of no help to you, but to perhaps keep someone else from falling into this same hole, I suggest that you Vote for and Comment on this Feature Request.

No. Microsoft Account Security is an automated process. Microsoft Support Agents can not unlock an account, reset your password, or change any Security Settings no matter what documentation you can present.

A removed @hotmail.com alias cannot be restored or re-created; Microsoft permanently deletes aliases in its own domains when they are removed, so the “reserved domain” message is expected.^1^

Changing the primary alias alone does not delete the previous alias. However, because the Hotmail address disappeared from Manage how you sign in, it was also removed—possibly during the same change. A deleted @hotmail.com, @outlook.com, or @live.com alias cannot be reclaimed or attached to this or another Microsoft account.

    What to do now

    1. Continue using the new Outlook.com alias.
Your aliases use the same Microsoft account, password, contacts, storage, subscriptions, and settings.^2^
    2. Update services that still use the old Hotmail address.
Change their sign-in, recovery, and verification address to the new alias. If a service sends a code only to the deleted address, contact that service’s support and use its account-recovery process. Mail sent to the removed address cannot be recovered through the new alias.
    3. Add another usable alias if needed.
Go to Microsoft account → Your info → Manage how you sign in to Microsoft → Add email. You can create an offered Outlook.com address or add an address from another provider.^3^
An existing Microsoft-domain address cannot be added as an alias, which is why Add an existing email address rejects the Hotmail address.^4^

    Contacting Microsoft Support

    You can still request confirmation:

    1. Open Contact Microsoft Support from Microsoft’s account-support page.
    2. Enter the issue and select Get Help.
    3. If self-help does not resolve it, select Contact Support and choose the available account/Outlook.com option.^2^

Support agents are not permitted to access or change Microsoft account details, so contacting them does not provide a documented route to restore the deleted alias.^2^

Do not remove the new primary alias while trying alternatives; removing a Microsoft-domain alias permanently deletes that address as well.^1^
