A two-day gap by itself does not indicate a problem. Microsoft Defender Antivirus security intelligence updates are released on a scheduled cadence, and cloud-delivered protection is separate from the regular security intelligence package updates. It is therefore possible to see periods with no new KB2267602 package installed even when protection remains active.
To verify the current state on the device:
- Open Windows Security.
- Go to Virus & threat protection.
- Select Virus & threat protection updates.
- Check the installed security intelligence version and its download date.
- Select Check for updates.
If an update is available, it should download there. If nothing new appears, compare the installed version with the latest version listed in the Microsoft Defender update information.
If a manual check does not update and the gap continues, use this troubleshooting path:
- Confirm Microsoft Defender Antivirus is the primary antivirus. If another antivirus registered through Windows Security Center is active, Defender updates will not occur.
- Verify required update URLs are allowed through any firewall or proxy.
- Ensure these services are running:
- Windows Update
- Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS)
- Try a manual signature update from an elevated Command Prompt:
MpCmdRun.exe -SignatureUpdate
If needed, try the Microsoft Malware Protection Center source:
MpCmdRun.exe -SignatureUpdate -MMPC
If MpCmdRun works but normal updating does not, the documented causes include:
- update fallback order pointing to WSUS without approved Security intelligence updates
- a stale UNC share source
- Windows Update service issues
For a home Windows 10 device, the most relevant checks are Windows Security manual update, network/proxy filtering, and confirming no third-party antivirus is disabling Defender.
