How did you obtain your license initially?
Did it come with the device preinstalled, or did you purchase it?
If you purchased it, did you purchase from Microsoft, or from third party?
Is it originally a Win7/8 key?
i just updated my motherboard and is asking me to windows activate.

i just updated my motherboard and is asking me to windows activate. i logged in at first with local account but then i signed with my main account but now is not working... what do i do to have my key i just upgraded from windows 10 home to windows 11 pro... what do i do about this

2026-10-08T17:55:57.4166667+00:00 If you have bought a Home to Pro upgrade and then changed the motherboard you will need to install Home edition first and make sure it is activated. After that you can upgrade to Pro edition and that should activate using your digital Home to Pro upgrade.
The product key you mention you have, is that for Home edtion?

2026-10-08T16:08:49.29+00:00 So, you purchased the Windows 10 Home license from Microsoft, and then later you purchased the upgrade license also from Microsoft to upgrade to Pro, is that correct?
If so, stacking license this way can be a bit problematic.
The upgrade license only works when the Home edition is activated first. But the Home license needs to be reactivated after motherboard change. and yet you cannot reactivate the Home edition since you have Pro installed right now. It is a typical catch-22 you are in.
Two options -
Clean install as Home edition. Run the troubleshooter to reactive Home, then upgrade to Pro, and transfer the Pro license.
Or, contact support, see if they can manually assist you to spare you the clean install.
To get help, open the "Get Help" app on your computer (just search for it in the Start menu). or go to https://support.microsoft.com/contactus, Type "Billing" and press Enter. On the next screen, click "Contact support" at the bottom of the page, then choose "Windows" > "Manage my subscription". You’ll then see the option to chat with a Microsoft support agent who has access to your account to help review the issue.

now am on a email bases on support after the 3rd atempt
