To remove the device from Insider Preview builds, the supported path depends on the channel.
- Go to Settings > Windows Update > Windows Insider Program > Stop Insider Preview Builds.
- If the device is on Beta, Experimental, or Release Preview, turn on the switch to stop getting preview builds. That returns the device to a retail build.
- If the device is on Experimental (Future Platforms), the supported path is a clean installation of Windows 11.
For rollback:
- The built-in Go back option is only available for a limited time after upgrade, and in most cases only for 10 days.
- If Settings > System > Recovery > Go back is available, selecting it keeps personal files but removes apps and drivers installed after the upgrade and changes made to Settings.
- Going back to an earlier build does not remove the device from the Insider Program.
If the goal is to stop Insider builds and return to a stable build:
- If the device can still use the Stop Insider Preview Builds option, use that first.
- If the device cannot return through Go back, use a supported reinstall path:
- Restore the device to its original operating system using the appropriate recovery image.
- Or complete a clean installation of Windows 11 using installation media.
Important:
- Back up files before reinstalling or restoring.
- A clean install or restore can remove apps, drivers, and settings.
- If the device is receiving Insider builds through work management, it will continue until the organization leaves the program or changes the settings.
If problems continue after unenrolling, report the issue in Feedback Hub and use the Answers forum or Windows Insider X for additional help.
