A family of Microsoft word processing software products for creating web, email, and print documents.
Try these checks in order:
- Make sure the files are being opened from the same Microsoft account where they were saved. A paid Microsoft 365 subscription does not always mean the files are under that same account.
- Go to OneDrive online and check these locations:
- My files
- Recycle bin
- Shared
- Photos
- Personal Vault if it was used before
- In Word, use File > Open > Browse to search for the file if the save location is unclear. In the Open dialog, type the full or partial file name, or text from the file, into the Search box at the top right.
- If the file opens but is read-only, check whether OneDrive storage is full. If OneDrive is full, the document cannot be saved until storage usage is reduced. Storage can be checked from the OneDrive icon in the notification center by selecting Manage storage, or by signing in to OneDrive online and checking used space in the lower-left corner.
- If Word shows Unlicensed Product or an activation error, sign out of Office and sign back in with the Microsoft account linked to the subscription.
- If the problem continues, try these general fixes:
- Restart the computer
- Install Office updates
- Perform an Online repair of Office
- Check the internet connection
