If the account email was changed by someone else, the supported recovery path is:

    1. Start with the Microsoft account Sign-in Helper tool. It checks the account state and either gives self-help steps or offers the chance to talk to an agent: Start
    2. Before changing or resetting anything, run a full malware scan on the PC. In Windows Security, open Virus and threat protection > Scan options > Full scan > Scan now.
    3. If access is still possible anywhere, change the password immediately: change your password. If sign-in is no longer possible, use reset your password.
    4. If the sign-in name now shows as not found, verify whether the original address is still a Microsoft account by trying to sign in at Sign in. If it says the account does not exist, that address is no longer recognized as the Microsoft account sign-in.
    5. If password reset does not work and the account details were changed, use the Microsoft account recovery form guidance: Sign-in Helper. Microsoft reviews recovery form answers and responds within 24 hours.
    6. If two-step verification was turned on and none of the alternate verification methods are accessible, support agents cannot send password reset links or change account details.
    7. If recovery still fails, use the support contact option: I need to talk to a customer support agent.

If the attacker changed the primary email and recovery information, recovery may no longer be possible if the official recovery process does not succeed.
