Perfect, so it is a problem with the current Edge Release. Have you done an Edge Reset from 3 dots > Settings > Reset > Reset MS Edge to Defaults?

    Hi,

I will walk through a few steps with you. Some of these are just to help figure out what is wrong, not to fix it right away. So if nothing changes after a step, that is normal. I will keep going until we solve it.

As a troubleshooting step, install Edge Development version please from this link:

    https://c2rsetup.edog.officeapps.live.com/c2r/downloadEdge.aspx?platform=Default&source=EdgeInsiderPage&Channel=Dev&language=en&Consent=1&brand=M103

This software installs separately to your Edge environment. Please test your issue in Edge Dev version and let me know.

I look forward to hearing from you to get the results of the troubleshooting.

Since the issue happens only in regular Edge and not in InPrivate, the most likely causes are cached site data, an Edge setting, or a background/browser state issue rather than YouTube itself.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Clear cached data for Edge
      • Go to Settings and more > History > Open history page > Delete browsing data.
      • Set Time range to All time.
      • Clear Browsing history and Cached images and files.
      • Test YouTube again.
    2. Turn off background apps in Edge
      • Open edge://settings/system.
      • Turn off Continue running background extensions and apps when Microsoft Edge is closed.
      • Restart Edge and test again.
    3. Check whether hardware acceleration is actually disabled in the current session
      • Open edge://gpu.
      • Review Graphics Feature Status.
      • If video-related items still show hardware acceleration in use, toggle Use graphics acceleration when available again in edge://settings/system, restart Edge, and retest.
    4. Use Browser Task Manager while the problem happens
      • In Edge, press Shift+Esc.
      • Sort by CPU or Memory.
      • Watch for a tab, subframe, or utility process that spikes when YouTube starts the play-pause loop.
      • End the affected process and see whether playback stabilizes.
    5. Check media diagnostics while YouTube is playing
      • Open edge://media-internals in another tab.
      • Reproduce the issue.
      • Check the player properties for the codec and decoder path, such as codec: h264 or codec: avc1, and whether Edge is using FFmpegVideoDecoder, D3D11VideoDecoder, or MediaFoundationVideoDecoder.
      • If the decoder path looks unstable, recheck edge://gpu and the graphics acceleration setting.
    6. Update Edge
      • Go to Settings and more > Settings > About Microsoft Edge.
      • Install any available update, then test again.
    7. If regular mode still fails, reset Edge settings
      • The context supports clearing browsing data and disabling extensions/background behavior. Since InPrivate works and extensions were already disabled, resetting the regular profile state is the next likely fix path.

If the problem continues, collect these details before escalating:

    • Edge version from edge://settings/help
    • GPU report from edge://gpu
    • Media playback logs from edge://media-internals
    • Active policies from edge://policy
