We see many reports in Q&A that Repair Now fails to work.

Do the following: Exit all Office apps and run an Online Repair. See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/lifecycle/repair-an-office-application .

Before you begin, verify that you can access your account at https://account.microsoft.com/services and that your Office product is associated with it.

Since Repair Now did not fix it, use this order on Windows:

    1. Update Office
      • Open any Office app.
      • Go to File > Account.
      • Under Product Information, select Update Options > Update Now.
      • If Update Now is not shown, select Enable Updates first.
    2. Start Word in Safe Mode to check add-ins
      • Press Windows + R.
      • Type winword /safe and press Enter.
      • If Word opens, go to File > Options > Add-Ins.
      • In Manage, select the add-in type and choose Go.
      • Clear one add-in at a time, select OK, then restart Word normally.
      • Older add-ins such as ABBYY FineReader and Dragon Naturally Speaking are known to cause problems.
    3. Run a full Office repair
      • The repair button in the error dialog is typically not enough.
      • In Windows 11: Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
      • In Windows 10: right-click Start > Apps and Features.
      • Find Microsoft 365 or Office, select Modify.
      • Choose Online Repair, then Repair.
      • This repairs the full Office installation. A restart may be needed after it finishes.
    4. Update Windows
      • Select Start.
      • Type Windows Update.
      • Select Check for updates.
      • Install any available updates.
    5. If the problem continues, update device drivers
      • Check for updated video card, printer, mouse, and keyboard drivers.
      • On laptops, also check the laptop manufacturer’s site for updated drivers.
    6. If Word still fails, uninstall and reinstall Office
      • Use the Office uninstall troubleshooter, restart the PC, then reinstall Office.
