We have a MacBook where only PowerPoint becomes unusable. Word, Excel, Outlook and other M365 apps continues to function normally.

Symptoms:

  • Powerpoint display a message indicating that the application is corrupted/damaged.
  • App icon greyed out in Application
  • Unable to launch PowerPoint

Actions Taken

  • Reinstall PowerPoint from M365
  • After reinstalling, PowerPoint works normally again.
  • The issue has occurred approximately 3-4 times on the same device starting on mid-May.
  • No similar issues observed with Word, Excel, or Outlook.

Are there any known issues where PowerPoint alone becomes corrupted on macOS while other M365 apps continue to working nornally?

Is there any recommended method to determine this issue? I have contact support team, seem incompatibility on app version & Mac.

    Hi @Watcharavin Apichai

Since reinstalling PowerPoint resolves the issue temporarily, but the same issue has occurred several times on the same Mac, I would first try to identify what is triggering the issue rather than repeatedly reinstalling the application.

Could you please provide the following information?

    • Which version of PowerPoint are you using?
    • Which macOS version is currently installed on your Mac?
    • Did this issue start after a recent PowerPoint, Microsoft 365, or macOS update?
    • What is the exact error message that appears when you try to open PowerPoint? If possible, please provide a screenshot of the error message with any personal or sensitive information removed.

Then, please try starting your Mac in Safe Mode and check whether the same issue occurs with PowerPoint.

Please also test PowerPoint using a new macOS user profile. If PowerPoint works normally under the new account while the issue continues under the original account, this may indicate that the issue is related to the original user profile, preferences, or another per-user component rather than a general PowerPoint/macOS compatibility issue.

Microsoft's current list of known PowerPoint for Mac issues does not appear to include this specific recurring corruption scenario. Since reinstalling PowerPoint from the Microsoft 365 portal allows it to work normally again, the results of these tests would help narrow down whether the issue is related to the PowerPoint/macOS version combination, the macOS user profile, or something else on the affected Mac.

There is no documented known issue in the provided material stating that PowerPoint alone repeatedly becomes “corrupted” on macOS while Word, Excel, and Outlook continue working normally.

The supported guidance that matches this scenario is to focus on version and update state:

    1. Verify macOS is at least version 12 or later.
    2. Close all Office apps.
    3. Open Microsoft AutoUpdate from Finder > Applications > Microsoft AutoUpdate.
      • If it is not there, check /Library/Application Support/Microsoft/MAU2.0/.
    4. Review available updates and install Update All or update PowerPoint individually.
    5. Launch PowerPoint again and test.

If PowerPoint was installed from the Mac App Store instead of microsoft.com:

    1. Open the App Store.
    2. Select Updates.
    3. Update PowerPoint.
    4. Test again.

Relevant known issues in the provided material for PowerPoint for Mac are limited to:

    • Export to Video on some Mac devices
    • Printing from Office for the web on macOS
    • Automatic sensitivity label policy not working in PowerPoint for Mac
    • Document rendering problems with older Office for Mac builds
    • Font issues in Office for macOS

None of those describe repeated app corruption of only PowerPoint.

For determining the issue, the strongest supported direction is the one already suggested by support: check for an app/macOS version mismatch and keep Office fully updated. There is also a general Office for Mac article showing that environmental problems can cause save-related errors, and its recommended resolution is to install the latest Office updates.

Because reinstalling PowerPoint restores normal operation temporarily, that is consistent with an app-state or version/update problem, but no more specific root cause is documented in the provided material.
