    Hi Darryl,

On a MacBook, Microsoft Teams requires screen recording permission in macOS before screen sharing can work. If this permission hasn't been granted, Teams won't be able to share your screen during meetings.

    1. Open the Apple menu > System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording.

    1. Enable the permission for Microsoft Teams. This will request authentication by using your password or Touch ID. Once completed, the checkbox should appear enabled.

To share your screen in a meeting, select Share content Share screen buttonin your meeting controls. Then, choose to present your entire screen, a window, a PowerPoint file, or a whiteboard.

In Teams on the web, you’ll see the following when you select Share content

Note: If you’re using Teams on the web, you’ll be able to share your screen only if you’re using Google Chrome or the latest version of Microsoft Edge.

If Microsoft Teams does not appear in the Screen & System Audio Recording list, try the following:

    1. Join a Teams meeting and select Share (or Share content) from the meeting controls.
    2. Choose Screen to share your entire display rather than a specific window.
    3. macOS should prompt you to allow Microsoft Teams to record your screen. Select Allow and follow any on-screen instructions.
    4. If no prompt appears, you'll need to add Teams manually:
      • Open System Settings from the Apple menu.
      • Go to Privacy & Security.
      • Open Screen & System Audio Recording.
      • Select the + button below the app list (you may be prompted to enter your Mac password).
      • Browse to the Applications folder.
      • Select Microsoft Teams and choose Open.
      • Ensure the toggle next to Microsoft Teams is turned on.
    5. Restart Microsoft Teams and try sharing your screen again.

If permissions appear to be turned on but Teams still cannot use screen sharing, try removing Teams from the permission list by delete it by selecting it and clicking - and adding it back follow the guidance in step 4 above.

On a MacBook, Teams screen sharing usually fails because macOS screen recording permission is not enabled for Teams.

    1. In the Teams meeting window, select Share in the meeting controls.
    2. If prompted, select Allow.
    3. If needed, select Open System Settings.
    4. In macOS, go to Apple menu > System Settings > Privacy & Security.
    5. Open Screen & System Audio Recording.
    6. Make sure Microsoft Teams is turned on.
    7. Return to the meeting, select Allow on the prompt, then select Share again.
    8. Choose the window or screen to present.

If sharing still does not work:

    1. Update macOS to the latest available version.
    2. Close unused apps to free memory, then try sharing again.
    3. If using Teams on the web, also allow screen recording for the browser.
    4. If the Mac is managed by an organization, contact the IT admin if permissions cannot be changed.

If Teams is listed in Screen & System Audio Recording but sharing still fails on macOS 15.x, this workaround is documented in Microsoft Q&A:

    1. Open System Settings.
    2. Go to Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording.
    3. If Microsoft Teams appears in the app list, remove it with the - button.
    4. Select + and add Microsoft Teams again from the Applications folder.
    5. Select Quit & Reopen.
    6. Confirm Microsoft Teams is enabled, then relaunch Teams.

Note: On Mac, there is a known issue affecting sharing indicators and control panels when using DisplayLink or some docking stations on macOS 14 and later.
