Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
For a home purchase, the purchase and install flow requires signing in with a Microsoft account. If sign-in keeps looping, use these supported paths:
- Try the purchase and install from the Microsoft account Services & subscriptions page instead of entering a product key flow.
- Sign in at Services & subscriptions.
- Use the same Microsoft account that will own the Office purchase.
- If a new product key was already purchased, redeem it at www.office.com/setup. After redemption, the product is added to the Microsoft account and future installs should be done by signing in, not by re-entering the key.
- If the device was previously connected to a company Microsoft 365 account, disconnect that work account in Windows:
- Go to Settings > Accounts > Access work or school.
- If the organization account is listed, select it and choose Disconnect.
- Restart the PC.
- When prompted later in apps, choose sign into this app only, not device management.
- If Office apps are installed and appear to be tied to the old work account, remove conflicting sign-in data:
- Close all Office apps.
- In Windows Settings > Accounts > Access work or school, disconnect unused or conflicting work/school accounts.
- Restart and try the Microsoft account sign-in again.
- If the sign-in loop happens only with a work or school account, that can be caused by an organization security policy blocking sign-in at office.com. In that case, use a personal Microsoft account for a home purchase, not the former company account.
- If sign-in still cannot be completed, contact Microsoft support.
