    1

    Close Edge.

    Open the Settings App.

    Go to Apps and Features.

    Scroll down to find Edge.

Select Edge, then choose Modify - Repair.

    2

If that does not resolve the problem, download the Edge installer form this link and use the installer to install Edge on top of the existing Edge installation.

    Try this in order:

    1. Update Edge directly
      • Open Microsoft Edge.
      • In the address bar, go to edge://settings/help.
      • Let Edge check for updates and install them.
      • Restart Edge when prompted.
    2. If Edge update fails, run the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter
      • On Windows 10: Start > Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
      • Select Program Compatibility Troubleshooter > Run the troubleshooter.
      • Follow the on-screen steps.
    3. Check Windows Update
      • Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
      • Select Check for updates.
      • Install any available updates, then restart the PC.
    4. If Windows updates will not install, make sure Windows Update service is running
      • Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
      • Find Windows Update.
      • If it is not running, right-click it and select Start.
    5. Check network and VPN
      • If a VPN is in use and a 403 error appears while downloading or updating Edge, disconnect the VPN temporarily and try again.
      • Also confirm the internet connection is stable.
    6. If Edge still freezes, reinstall it
      • Close all Edge windows first.
      • Open another working browser.
      • Download the latest Edge from https://www.microsoft.com/edge.
      • Reinstall it, then restart the PC.
    7. If the issue is tied to a specific error code, use the matching fix
      • 0x80240016: another update is in progress. Check for pending Windows updates and restart the PC.
      • 0x8024001E: connection to Microsoft update servers failed. Run the Windows Update troubleshooter from Start > Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
      • 0x80070005: permission issue. Run Edge as administrator and temporarily disable third-party antivirus, then retry.

Caution: Temporarily disabling antivirus reduces protection. Re-enable it immediately after testing.
