Build 28120.3151 consistently wakes from sleep mode with "Night light" enabled

Build 28120.3151 consistently wakes from sleep mode with "Night light" enabled, even during the day. It does not respond to the toggle switch. The only solution is to turn HDR off and on, and then turn Night light on and off.

Thanks for bringing this up, Артур Гроховский,

The Experimental channel is specifically used to test changes that are still under development, so issues like this can sometimes happen. Microsoft also notes that these builds can be unstable and may have limited documentation.

For now, I couldn’t find this Night light/HDR sleep issue currently listed or widely reported yet. I cannot say for sure whether it's specific for your device, or just something people haven't noticed. It'd be helpful if you can do some tests:

    • Press Win + Ctrl + Shift + B after waking the PC to reset the graphics driver. If that immediately corrects the colors, it further points toward the display state not being restored correctly after sleep.
    • Check Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates and install any available graphics/display driver update (in chance a hot fix already got released)
    • Reinstall Windows (keeping files and applications) with the built-in option:
      • Open Settings > System > Recovery > Fix problems using Windows Update
      • Click Reinstall now > follow the onscreen instructions to reinstall Windows.

Disclaimer: This reinstallation can fix update issues without removing your files or applications. However, we always recommend that if you have important data, you should back it up.

If the issue persists through even a reinstall, at this point, consider reporting this through Feedback Hub (press Win + F). As Microsoft Q&A is just a user-to-user support forum, while posting here may help attract others who have observed similar behavior, the thread itself might not reach the Insiders engineering team.

Still, thanks again for reporting this. Issues like this are exactly what the Insider builds are intended to help identify. If any other users face this, your workaround with HDR is extremely useful.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Open Settings > System > Display > Night light.
    2. If Night light is stuck on after waking from sleep, move the Strength slider to the left or select Turn off now if that option appears. This reduces or removes the red tint.
    3. In Night light settings, turn off Schedule night light so Windows does not automatically re-enable it.
    4. If the Night light toggle is grayed out or does not respond, update the display driver. Windows notes that Night light can require a display driver update, and Night light is not available with some drivers such as DisplayLink or Basic Display.
    5. Because the issue happens after sleep/wake, also test with HDR turned off. A reported workaround for Night light not staying in the expected state is to toggle HDR off and back on.
    6. If brightness or color still looks wrong after wake, manually change brightness in Settings > System > Display after resume. On affected HDR systems, even a small brightness change can restore expected display behavior.

    Relevant notes for this scenario:

    • Night light behavior is controlled by the graphics/display driver.
    • On HDR-capable devices, Night light can cause oversaturated or red-tinted colors; reducing Strength or turning Night light off is the documented workaround.
    • If the problem started with this build and persists after updating the OEM graphics driver, the practical workaround from the available guidance is the HDR toggle sequence already identified.
