Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
Try this end-to-end install path:
- Restart the device, then sign in with the account associated with the Microsoft 365 purchase and select Install again.
- If the install option is missing after signing in with a work or school account, go directly to the Microsoft 365 Software page and install from there. If the install option is still missing, the account may not have a license assigned.
- If the installer downloads but does not run:
- Wait until the download is complete.
- On Mac, move the installer from Downloads to the desktop and launch it from there.
- If it still fails, delete the installer, empty Trash, and download it again using Safari.
- If the download keeps failing or stops partway through:
- Verify the internet connection.
- Pause other downloads.
- Delete the partial installer and download again.
- On Mac, in Safari go to Preferences > Security and make sure Enable Javascript is selected, then go to Privacy > Manage Website Data > Remove all, and try again.
- Check that the device is running a supported operating system. Microsoft 365 or Office will not install on unsupported systems.
- If an error message includes a Learn More link, open it and follow the specific troubleshooting for that error.
- If standard installation still fails, use the offline installer. It can bypass proxy, firewall, antivirus, or internet connection issues during installation.
If the problem is on a Mac and the installer is stuck at Verifying or shows an unidentified developer message:
- Select OK, wait 10 seconds, and try again.
- Update to the latest version of macOS.
- Restart the Mac and try the installation again.
