A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
There is no manual identity-proof route that bypasses Microsoft account recovery. Support agents are not allowed to send password reset links or access and change account details.
What can still be done:
- Try the Microsoft account Sign-in Helper first. It is the primary path for most sign-in problems.
- If the account is specifically locked, sign in at Sign in to request a security code. Any phone number that can receive text messages can be used for the code; it does not need to already be associated with the account.
- If the offered verification email or phone is no longer accessible, select I don't have any of these during sign-in and follow the prompts to replace security info.
- If recovery form attempts keep failing, submit the Account recovery form again, but do it from a device and location previously used for that account, such as the usual home or office device/network. Microsoft states this can improve the chance of successful recovery.
- Use a working contact email when submitting the recovery form. It can be any active email account that can receive messages about the recovery request.
- If two-step verification was enabled and none of the alternate verification methods are accessible, the account cannot be recovered through support or the recovery form.
- If the sign-in flow shows “That Microsoft account doesn't exist”, use the Sign-in Helper.
Important limits:
- There is no supported process to “physically prove” identity to regain access.
- Microsoft reviews recovery form answers and responds within 24 hours.
- If verification messages are not arriving because the account is flagged for unusual activity or locked, they may not go through until that issue is resolved.
- For technical support, Contact Microsoft Support is available, but support still cannot unlock the account by overriding account ownership checks.
