It shows "Unrecognized USB Device" when I connect my headset (USB-C type). It used to work before, like 2 weeks ago but now it's showing unrecognized. When I connect it, a new driver appears under Universal Serial Bus controllers, named "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" I tried uninstalling that driver and restart the device to reinstall it. Didn't work. I have no idea what to do. Please help me.

    Hi,

You can try resetting the USB controller to see if that resolves the issue. To do this, go to Device Manager > USB controllers, uninstall the "Intel USB 3.10 Extensible Host," and restart your PC immediately.

Perform this step with the headphones disconnected; once you uninstall the driver, all USB ports will stop working. Upon restarting, the system will reload the USB driver and reset the controller. Test the headphones again after the restart.

If that doesn't work, test the headphones and the headphone cable on another PC to see if the same problem occurs.

Since uninstalling the unknown device and restarting did not help, use this order:

    1. Try a different USB port.
      • Connect the headset directly to another USB port on the PC.
      • If available, avoid hubs and adapters while testing.
      • Microsoft guidance for USB audio issues specifically lists trying a different USB port as a fix.
    2. Check the Device Manager error details.
      • Open Start and search for Device Manager.
      • Find the device with the yellow warning icon under Universal Serial Bus controllers.
      • Right-click it > Properties.
      • Note the code shown under Device status and follow the troubleshooting for that code in Error codes in Device Manager in Windows.
      • This applies to Device Manager error codes except Code 28.
    3. If the headset is being detected as a USB audio device but audio still fails, reinstall only the device entry.
      • In Device Manager, open the headset device.
      • Go to the Driver tab.
      • Select Uninstall Device.
      • Do not select "Delete the driver software for this device".
      • Reconnect the headset.
    4. If the headset has a device-specific installer, install that first, then reconnect the headset.
      • Windows guidance says this can make Windows choose the device-specific driver instead of the default USB audio 2.0 driver.
    5. If the headset is actually using a USB-C analog audio adapter path, Windows can show Unsupported USB-C Audio Adapter.
      • In that case, the fix is to disconnect it and use a USB-C digital audio adapter instead.
      • Most PCs support USB-C digital audio adapters, not analog ones.

If the headset still shows Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) after trying another port, that usually points to a problem with the USB port, cable, or the headset hardware path. Testing the headset on another PC and testing another USB-C audio device on this PC helps isolate which side is failing.
