    It's completely up to you.

While on any given day, antivirus 'A' may beat antivirus 'B' in testing, over an extended period of time, most antivirus apps are equally good at what they do, including Microsoft Defender. So base your choice on other considerations, like which one is easier for you to understand, which one has an interface that you like, which one has better support, and which has additional features that you find useful.

Microsoft Defender can be a fine choice, but don't choose it solely or mostly because it comes from Microsoft. While it's certainly true that no one knows Windows better, no one knows any better than anyone else where and how an attacker will strike next.

Most important: Don't rely exclusively on an antivirus app to protect your computer. Traditional viruses constitute a tiny percentage of today's attacks. Most successful attackers today use techniques that are not detected by antivirus apps. That's why all of us need to keep on top of the many threats coming from the internet so we can stand a chance to avoid them.

It is basically a personal choice if you install a 3rd party anti-virus on your system, however, for most normal home users, there is no need to install a 3rd party anti-virus.

Windows Security is a full Security Suite that is on a par with all the paid for 3rd party Anti-virus suites, it is highly rated.

Windows Security has many components like Defender Anti-Virus, Ransomware Protection, Memory Integrity, Core Isolation...etc. and its Defender Virus Definitions are updated every day like all the 3rd party anti-virus suites to include any newly found malware on the web.

Defender is tightly integrated with Windows, it is free and will not slow down your PC like many of the 3d party anti-virus suites.

For most home Windows 11 use, no additional antivirus purchase is necessary. Microsoft Defender Antivirus is built into Windows 11 and provides real-time, behavior-based, heuristic, and cloud-delivered protection.

If another antivirus app is installed and turned on, Microsoft Defender Antivirus turns off automatically. If that other app is removed, Microsoft Defender Antivirus turns back on.

Running two real-time antivirus products at the same time is not recommended because it can reduce performance and can cause update or installation errors.

If a separate antivirus product is wanted for extra bundled features such as VPN or identity tools, that is a feature choice rather than a requirement for core antivirus protection.
