Hello,
I purchased Microsoft Office Professional 2021from Best Buy. The vendor sent me the key. Once download Office, I activated the key to my Microsoft account. When open Words for the first time, I choose activation online by entering the key. Surprisingly, I got a message indicating that the activation doesn't work. Please help me to fix this issue.

Regards,
Davith Bolin

    Hi!

The key is redeemed to your account, just as you mentioned you did. You do not enter the key into Word itself, as it is linked to your account. You need to sign in to Word using the Microsoft account associated with the license purchase.

It is also important to verify that Office was indeed linked. If the previous step doesn't work, go to https://account.microsoft.com/services, sign in with the same account, look for Microsoft Office, click Manage, and check the status.

    Try this in order:

    1. Confirm the key was already redeemed to the correct Microsoft account
      • Sign in to the Microsoft account used when the product key was redeemed.
      • Go to the Microsoft account Services & subscriptions page and check whether Office 2021 appears there.
      • If Office is listed, the key is already linked to that account and should not need to be entered again inside Word.
    2. Sign in to Office with that same account
      • Open Word or another Office app.
      • Go to File > Account.
      • If another account is signed in, sign out, close all Office apps, reopen, and sign in with the Microsoft account that owns the Office 2021 purchase.
      • Using a different account can cause the message “We couldn't find any Office products.”
    3. Reinstall from the account, not from a trial or mismatched installer
      • If the product is already shown under Services & subscriptions, install Office from that account’s install option.
      • This helps ensure the installed Office edition matches the redeemed license.
    4. Check for multiple Office installations
      • Having more than one Office copy installed can cause activation conflicts.
      • If there are multiple versions or a trial version installed, remove the extra copy and then reinstall the licensed version from the Microsoft account.
    5. If the key is rejected as invalid
      • If the message is “This product cannot be activated because the product key is not valid,” the key has been blocked and will no longer work.
      • In that case, contact the seller and request a refund.
      • Microsoft also notes that keys sold separately from the software by third parties can be stolen, abused, or unauthorized.
    6. If the key works on setup but Office still will not activate
      • Use the account-linked install and then activate by signing in, not by re-entering the key in Word.
    7. If Office still shows Unlicensed Product
      • Check subscription/license status on the Microsoft account.
      • Then use Microsoft’s guided support for Office activation issues.

    Also note:

    • The full product key cannot be viewed inside Office or online.
    • In Office apps, File > Account shows the account Office belongs to under Belongs to.
