    Hi,

Which update are you trying to install? If possible, post a screenshot of the error window.

Also, open Command Prompt (admin) and run these two commands:

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    VER

    Post the output here.

Error 0x8000FFFF during a Windows update usually indicates an unexpected or catastrophic failure, and it is commonly associated with corruption in C:\Windows\System32\catroot2.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Run the Windows Update troubleshooter:
      • Go to Start > Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
      • Find Windows Update and select Run.
    2. Check for corrupted system files from an elevated Command Prompt:
      • Run SFC /SCANNOW
      • Then run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    3. If the update still fails, the documented resolution for 0x8000FFFF on Windows-based computers is to perform an in-place upgrade. This repairs Windows while reinstalling the operating system components.

If this is happening on an Azure Windows VM, back up the OS disk before proceeding with repair actions.
