Hi @Mahesh Borse (Consumer Bank, KMBL),
I hope you're doing well!
The error "Item does not exist. It may have been deleted by another user" usually indicates that SharePoint cannot locate the file at the URL being accessed. Common causes include the file being moved, renamed, deleted, permission changes, or a stale/broken sharing link.
In this case, I recommend trying the following troubleshooting steps:
Step 1: Verify the URL
- Copy the full URL and open it in a new browser tab.
- Check for any truncated or malformed characters in the link.
- If the link came from an old email, Teams chat, or bookmark, it may no longer point to the correct location.
Step 2: Search for the file directly
- Open the SharePoint site.
- Navigate to the Documents library.
- Use the SharePoint search box to search for the file name.
- Check whether the file was renamed or moved to another folder.
Step 3: Check the Recycle Bin
- Open the SharePoint site > Settings (gear icon) > Site contents.
- Select Recycle Bin.
- Search for the missing file.
- If found, restore it.
- If not found, ask the SharePoint administrator to check the Second-Stage Recycle Bin: Restore deleted items from the site collection recycle bin | Microsoft Support
Step 4: Confirm permissions
Ask the Site Owner or SharePoint Administrator to verify:
- You still have access to the site.
- You have permissions to the document library and file.
- No recent permission changes have removed your access.
- If anyone in your team accidentally delete the file or its content.
Step 5: Test in an InPrivate browser session
- Open an InPrivate/Incognito window.
- Sign in to Microsoft 365.
- Navigate directly to the SharePoint library.
- Attempt to open or download the file again.
- If successful, clear your browser cache and cookies.
Step 6: Test without VPN
If you are connected through VPN:
- Disconnect from the VPN.
- Sign in to https://www.office.com.
- Open the SharePoint site and test the file again.
- VPN or proxy routing issues can occasionally affect SharePoint file access.
Step 7: Check Content Approval and Version History
If the file exists but cannot be opened:
- Ask the Site Owner to verify whether Content Approval is enabled.
- Check whether the document is checked out or awaiting approval.
- Review Version History to see if a previous version can be restored.
If the issue persists, please provide:
- Whether the file can be found in the Document Library.
- Whether other users can open the same file.
- Whether the issue affects one file or multiple files.
- A screenshot of the error page (with your personal information removed).
- The SharePoint file URL (mask any confidential information).
Please also let me know the result after trying the steps above so I can provide further troubleshooting steps if needed.
Looking forward to your response so we can get this sorted out for you together.
