Capturing audio, video, and screen content from Teams meetings for later review or sharing
For a Teams meeting recording that will not open, use this path:
- Confirm the recording actually started.
- In the meeting chat, check for the message that indicates recording started.
- If that message never appeared, the recording most likely did not start and can’t be recovered.
- If the recording link is missing in chat, refresh the chat view.
- Scroll to the top of the chat, then back to the bottom.
- This can restore the meeting recording link in high-volume chats.
- Manually locate the recording.
- For a non-channel meeting: open OneDrive and check My files > Recordings.
- For a channel meeting: in Teams, open the channel and select Files > Recordings > Open in SharePoint.
- Admins can also check the SharePoint Documents library under the channel’s Recordings folder.
- If the recording opens but access is denied or sign-in fails, verify the account being used.
- If the meeting was attended with a personal account but the recording is stored in an organization’s OneDrive or SharePoint, access can fail unless that account was added as an external user or explicitly granted permission.
- In cross-organization scenarios, the person who recorded the meeting may need to share the file from OneDrive with the exact account that needs access.
- Check whether the file was deleted, moved, or expired.
- If it is not in OneDrive, check the recycle bin and second-stage recycle bin.
- If the recording appears in recap or chat but still will not play, or it is missing from OneDrive/SharePoint, run the diagnostic.
- In the Microsoft 365 admin center, use the missing recording diagnostic.
- Enter the meeting URL and meeting date, then run the tests.
- The tests confirm whether the recording finished successfully and whether it uploaded to SharePoint or OneDrive.
- If the issue remains unresolved, open a Microsoft Support service request.
- This is the documented next step for unresolved meeting recording issues.
The SharePoint Correlation ID is mainly useful for debugging SharePoint errors, but for Teams recording access issues the supported troubleshooting path is to locate the recording in OneDrive or SharePoint, verify permissions and account context, run the recording diagnostic, and then escalate to Microsoft Support if needed.
