Using New Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
Hi Natalie Lund,
I understand how disruptive this can be, especially when changes made in New Outlook are not reaching Gmail and therefore do not appear correctly in Apple Mail on your iPhone.
Since new Gmail messages are still arriving in Outlook, this appears to be a one-way synchronization issue rather than a complete connection failure. Could you confirm whether marking a message as read or unread in New Outlook also fails to update in Gmail, and when this behavior first started?
In the meantime, please try the following:
- Open Gmail in a web browser and go to Settings > See all settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP, then confirm that IMAP is enabled.
- Under Settings > Labels, make sure Show in IMAP is enabled for Inbox, Sent, Trash, All Mail, and the labels corresponding to the affected subfolders.
- Update New Outlook to the latest available version and restart the app.
- Before removing the account, save any unsynchronized drafts or Outlook-only changes. Then open Settings > Accounts > Your accounts, select Manage next to the Gmail account, remove it, restart Outlook, and add it again using the Google sign-in window. Be sure to select Allow when Google requests permission.
You can also refer to Microsoft’s official guidance here:
- Fix problems connecting your Google account to the Microsoft Cloud
- Add or manage a Gmail account in Outlook for Windows
After reconnecting the account, please test with a new message by moving or deleting it in New Outlook, then check Gmail on the web. If the change still does not appear there, the problem may require further investigation by Outlook Support. Thank you so much for your understanding.
