    Hello carvin hall,

“Copilot migration” means your account is moving to the updated Copilot app, which may look different. “Chat migration” is the move of your eligible past chats into that experience. Microsoft says this can take time, but it does not mean every chat that fails to open is definitely still moving.

I understand that you can see a past chat in History, but selecting it gives “Content can’t load.” Does that same chat fail to open in both the Windows app and Copilot on the web when you use the same Google sign-in method?

If it still fails, please use Send feedback > Report a problem in Copilot and include the exact error and a screenshot. That gives Microsoft the details needed to investigate the loading issue.

Copilot migration is the move to the updated Copilot app experience. During this update, chats and other eligible content are automatically moved into the new app experience, and the interface can change at the same time.

How it relates to chat migration:

    1. Chats move with the account. Most chats, images, and other eligible Copilot content are migrated to the updated Copilot app.
    2. The interface changes at the same time. The updated app may appear as a new app on some devices instead of a normal in-place update, so the chat layout and navigation can look different.
    3. Past chats may take time to appear. If old chats are missing, they may still be moving to the updated experience.
    4. Some content does not carry forward. Group Chat threads, messages, and content created in Group Chats will not carry forward after August 18, 2026. Some retired features such as Podcasts and Deep Research are also handled differently.

What happened to the chat interface:

    • The updated Copilot experience can be delivered as a new app on some devices.
    • Web users may be redirected automatically to the updated version.
    • In Teams personal, past chats are available from Expand Navigation:
      • New chat starts a new conversation.
      • Chat shows or lets search chats from the previous seven days.
      • All chats shows past chats by date and time.
      • More on a chat allows Delete or Rename.

    What happened to past chats:

    • Most past chats should still move to the updated app.
    • If only some chats are missing, data movement and sync may still be in progress.
    • Different devices can temporarily show different chats while migration completes.
    • If the app says chats are “coming soon”, the account has moved but chats and content are still on the way.

Steps to check when past chats are missing:

    1. Confirm the same sign-in method is being used on every device: the same personal Microsoft account, or the same Google or Apple sign-in previously used.
    2. Restart Copilot: close and reopen the app, or refresh the page on the web.
    3. Check for in-app messages: there may be a link to access previous chats while content is still moving.
    4. Allow more time: migration time varies based on the amount and type of content.
    5. Use the account switcher if both personal and work or school accounts are used, because those experiences remain separate by design.

If Projects seem missing, they were renamed to Notebooks in the updated Copilot app.
