PC not showing connected or disconnected when plugging in headphones

I've switched to a brand new PC yesterday, new monitor and tower. I'm reusing my sennheiser hd 569 headphones, I've also replaced the headphone jack since the last one was broken. But my PC is not detecting the headphones or showing connected/disconnected. Even when plugged in, it still plays sound out of my speakers. I use Windows 11 22H2, and PC is a HP ENVY TE01-3000.

And I've checked that all my audio drivers are all update along with everything else.

    Hi CHARMAINE,

I understand how confusing this must be on a brand-new PC, especially when Windows continues playing sound through the speakers and does not react at all when the headphones are connected.

First, please confirm whether the headphones work correctly with another device. Also, are you connecting them to the front or rear 3.5 mm audio port? If possible, test both ports.

On the PC, please try the following:

    • Open Settings > System > Sound and check whether Headphones appear under Output. Also confirm that Windows has not selected the monitor or an HDMI/DisplayPort audio device instead.
    • Open Device Manager, select View > Show hidden devices, then expand Sound, video and game controllers and Audio inputs and outputs. Select Action > Scan for hardware changes.
    • Run the Audio troubleshooter through the Get Help app.
    • Since Device Manager may report that the driver is current even when a different manufacturer driver is required, download and reinstall the audio driver specifically for the HP ENVY TE01-3000 from HP’s support page, then restart the PC.

You can also follow Microsoft’s official guide here: Fix a missing or undetected audio output device in Windows.

If neither audio port detects the headphones, while the same headphones work on another device, the issue may be specific to the PC’s audio jack or internal connection. In that case, contacting HP Support would be the appropriate next step. Thank you so much for your understanding.
