"Replies are restricted" in Teams Android

My Teams app in Android showed the "Replies are restricted" blocker in meeting chats in my work account when the meeting is not ongoing. Even those meeting chats where I am the organizer. (Teams for iOS is not affected.)

I've seen many forums already, suggesting to update the phone, restart the phone, downgrade and upgrade Android System Webview, clear cache, reinstall from Google Play Store.

Preferrably, I would not install from third-party sources due to possible security issues.

Any way to fix this?

    Hi David,

    Thank you for reaching out..

Since the “Replies are restricted” message appears only in Teams for Android, including meetings where you are the organizer, while the same chats work on iOS, the issue may be specific to the Android app rather than the meeting chat permissions themselves.

To resolve the issue, please try the following steps:

    1. Test the meeting chat in Teams on the web
    • Open a supported browser and go to https://teams.microsoft.com.
    • Sign in with the same work account used in the Android app.
    • Open Chat and select one of the affected meeting chats.
    • Try sending a message while the meeting is not ongoing.
    1. Check the meeting chat setting

Using Teams on a desktop or web browser:

    • Open the meeting from the Teams calendar.
    • Select Meeting options.
    • Find Meeting chat or Allow meeting chat.
    • Set it to On, rather than In meeting only.
    • Save the change and test the meeting chat again on Android.
    1. Clear the complete Teams app data
    • Make sure you can sign back in and complete MFA.
    • Open Android Settings > Apps > Teams.
    • Select Force stop.

    • Reopen Teams and sign in with your work account.
    • Test both a newly created meeting and an existing meeting chat.
    1. Ask your IT administrator to verify the effective policy

    Your IT administrator should check:

    • Go to Teams admin center > Users > Manage users.
    • Select your account.
    • Open Policies and identify the assigned meeting policy.
    • Go to Meetings > Meeting policies.
    • Open that policy.
    • Under Meeting engagement, verify that Meeting chat is set to:
      • On for everyone, or
      • On for everyone but anonymous users.

I hope your issue gets resolved soon. Any updates would be greatly appreciated.
