Why Are Grandfathered Copilot Subscribers Being Asked to Upgrade for Features We Already Had ?!?!?

As a long-time Copilot subscriber, I understand that the costs associated with AI infrastructure, data processing, and ongoing development continue to increase. However, my concern is about how these price increases affect your most loyal customers, especially those of us who have been subscribed since the early days and were effectively "grandfathered" into the service.

Why are core features that were previously included, such as extensive or unlimited Copilot Vision and screen-sharing capabilities, now being placed behind higher subscription tiers or usage limits? From a customer perspective, it feels less like added value and more like paying extra to regain functionality we once had as part of our subscription.

Microsoft often presents these changes by saying subscribers will receive "more than free users," but many of us remember when paid subscribers already had broader or even unlimited access. Why has the messaging shifted from rewarding loyalty with premium access to comparing paid subscribers against free users?

Has Microsoft considered maintaining legacy benefits for long-term subscribers who helped support and adopt Copilot early on? If not, what is the rationale for asking your most loyal customers to pay more while receiving less access than they previously enjoyed?

    Hi @Tyran Phillips

I understand why this feels frustrating, especially if Copilot Vision or screen-sharing access now seems more restricted than when you originally subscribed.

Microsoft’s current documentation states that Copilot features are subject to plan-based usage limits. For Vision, Microsoft 365 Personal and Family receive “standard usage,” Premium receives “more usage,” and Pro receives the “highest usage.” Microsoft also notes that these limits can vary by feature, service conditions, and available capacity, and may change over time.

However, the published documentation does not appear to confirm a grandfathered entitlement that permanently preserves earlier Vision limits, nor does it explain the specific business rationale behind changing access for long-term subscribers. If you were previously promised unlimited or materially different access, it would be reasonable to submit feedback with the original subscription description, purchase date, and any screenshots or emails showing the earlier benefit.

If your subscription was Copilot Pro - the plan was no longer available for purchase and that existing subscriptions could continue only until support ended on August 1, 2026, with Microsoft 365 Premium presented as a replacement option for extensive Copilot usage

Thank you for your feedback and understanding. Hope you have a lovely day
