- If it works in the browser, the issue is likely with the desktop app.

- In Teams, select More options > Check for updates.
- If an update is available, install it and test again.
- Clear the Teams cache
- This can remove local app data that may be causing the issue.

- Open File Explorer.
- Go to %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams.
- Delete the contents of that folder.
- Restart Teams and sign in again.
- Mac:
- Right-click the Teams icon in the taskbar and choose Quit.
- Delete ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams.
- Restart Teams and sign in again.
- Reinstall Teams if needed
- If the issue still continues after the steps above, uninstall and reinstall Teams.
- If the problem is only in Teams for Education assignments, contact the IT admin
- In education environments, permissions and settings can be controlled by the school IT admin.
- If typing is blocked only in assignments or chat-related areas, the IT admin may need to check access or policy settings.
If chat also cannot be typed anywhere in Teams, updating the app, clearing cache, and reinstalling are the main supported steps.
