    Hi. I'm David, and I'm happy to help you.

    What message is displayed in the camera's Device Status in Device Manager?

    1. Press "Windows + X" and select "Device Manager";
    2. Click on the "View" menu and select "Show hidden devices";
    3. Expand "Cameras" (or "Imaging devices" if Cameras is not listed);

    (If neither category is displayed, let me know.)

    1. If the camera is listed, right-click and select "Properties". Check if there is an error in "Device Status".

    If you prefer, share a screenshot. Use the shortcut "Windows + Shift + S" to use the screenshot tool.

    Also, share a screenshot of your system information.

    • Press "Windows + R", type msinfo32 and press Enter.

    Maximize the window and use the screenshot tool.

    Looking forward to your reply.

    On HP laptops, the camera control is typically a keyboard key or a physical switch on the side of the laptop. The documented guidance is to check for:

    1. A keyboard key with a camera icon, sometimes used with the Fn key.
    2. A dedicated camera button on the keyboard.
    3. A sliding switch on the side of the laptop.
    4. A small privacy shutter built into the camera.

    If no button is visible near the camera, check the F1–F12 keys for a camera icon and try Fn + that key. Community guidance for HP devices also notes that HP may use a camera key on the keyboard or a button on the side of the laptop.

    If the camera still does not work:

    1. Open Start > Camera and check whether the preview works.
    2. Go to Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
    3. If needed, open Advanced options > Optional updates and look for camera driver updates.
    4. Restart the PC after installing updates.

    If the issue started after a Windows update, try rolling back or reinstalling the camera driver:

    1. Open Device Manager.
    2. Right-click the camera under Cameras and select Properties.
    3. On the Driver tab, select Roll Back Driver if available.
    4. If not available, select Uninstall Device, then in Device Manager select Action > Scan for hardware changes.
