I am trying to open a link that is supposed to give me a file to download and it is not giving me that file. It just takes me to a page that gives me a bunch of text. I have updated my Chrome, deleted and cleared my cache, allowed for pop ups, nothing has fixed the problem. Screenshot 2026-09-27 at 6.12.33 PM

If you want to save the text file, right click on the opened page and select Save as then save pcb_info.txt

    microsoftlearning.github.io/mslearn-ai-concepts/data/pcb_info.txt

or were you after zipped circuit board pictures?

    pcbs.zip

    Welcome Caleb N Manning,

It looks like the link is opening the raw .txt file in the browser instead of downloading it. From the screenshot, the URL ends with pcb_info.txt, which is a text file, and browsers often display text files directly rather than downloading them.

Before suggesting more advanced troubleshooting, could you clarify:

    • Is this happening with only this specific link, or with all download links?
    • If possible, please share the exact URL or the Microsoft Learn page that contains the link.

In the meantime, please try these quick tests:

    Step 1: Force the download

    • Right-click the link.
    • Select “Save link as…” (or “Download linked file” on macOS).
    • Check whether the file downloads instead of opening.

Step 2: Try Edge InPrivate mode

    • Open Edge.
    • Press Command + Shift + N.
    • Open the link again and see whether the behavior changes.

Step 3: Test in another browser

    • Since you mentioned Chrome, please also test the link in Microsoft Edge if you have not already done so.
    • Let us know whether both browsers show the same text page.

    Looking forward to your update.
