KB5129237 Not Applicable to Server 2022 Datacenter Azure Edition?

We have imported the September 14, 2026 OOB update KB5129237 (20348.5631) into WSUS using Microsoft's Catalog/WSUS import procedure.

Our regular Windows Server 2022 servers successfully detect and install KB5129237.

However, all tested Windows Server 2022 Datacenter: Azure Edition systems report KB5129237 as Not Applicable.

Example affected server:

Plain Text

ProductName : Windows Server 2022 Datacenter Azure Edition

EditionID : ServerTurbine

DisplayVersion : 21H2

CurrentBuild : 20348

UBR : 5622

So the server is currently at 20348.5622, corresponding to September 2026 KB5122882.

WSUS shows:

KB5129237

Approval: Install

Status: Not Applicable

Microsoft's Azure Edition servicing documentation confirms that September 2026 is a baseline month for Windows Server 2022 Datacenter: Azure Edition and points to KB5122882.

KB5129237 is Microsoft's OOB update resolving, among other things, the RDS issue following KB5122882.

Can Microsoft confirm:

Is KB5129237 supported/applicable to Windows Server 2022 Datacenter: Azure Edition (ServerTurbine)?

If yes, why does WUA/WSUS return Not Applicable?

If no, what is the equivalent Azure Edition update containing the fixes from KB5129237?

Is this behavior related to the Azure Edition/Hotpatch servicing model or to the applicability metadata supplied with KB5129237?

We don't want to manually force the Catalog .msu onto production Azure Edition servers until its applicability is confirmed.

Hello and welcome to Microsoft Q&A!

Thank you for your patience and for detailing your concern.

Key Point

KB5129237 (September 14, 2026 OOB, build 20348.5631) does not apply to Windows Server 2022 Datacenter: Azure Edition (ServerTurbine). Azure Edition follows a different baseline + hotpatch servicing model. Fixes from KB5129237 are delivered through Azure Edition–specific cumulative updates or hotpatch bundles, not the standard WSUS catalog package.

Why WSUS Shows “Not Applicable”

Applicability metadata: KB5129237 targets Windows Server 2022 Standard/Datacenter (non‑Azure). Azure Edition SKUs (EditionID: ServerTurbine) are excluded.

Servicing model: Azure Edition uses baseline + hotpatch servicing. September 2026 baseline is KB5122882 (20348.5622). Hotpatches layer on top of this baseline, rather than OOB updates like KB5129237.

Result: WUA/WSUS correctly reports “Not Applicable” because KB5129237 does not target Azure Edition.

What to Use Instead

Baseline update: Ensure Azure Edition servers are on KB5122882 (20348.5622).

Hotpatch stream: Equivalent fixes (including the RDS issue addressed by KB5129237) are delivered via Azure Edition hotpatch updates following KB5122882. These are distributed through Azure Update channels, not WSUS imports.

Manual install caution: Do not force KB5129237 .msu onto Azure Edition — this is unsupported and may break servicing consistency.

Keep Azure Edition servers enrolled in the Azure hotpatch servicing channel.

Monitor the Windows release health dashboard and Azure Edition servicing documentation for the hotpatch update containing KB5129237 fixes.

I hope this clarifies why KB5129237 is not applicable to Azure Edition and how its fixes are delivered.

Just want to add - it would be easier to import updates into WSUS by using Import-WsusUpdate - a free powershell module on the PowerShell Gallery that does more than Microsoft's official script, including the ability of importing using the KB number (easier to work with).

Find the information on how to install it here:
