A family of Microsoft presentation graphics products that offer tools for creating presentations and adding graphic effects like multimedia objects and special effects with text.
Try these steps in order:
- Update Office
- Open any Office app that still works.
- Go to File > Account.
- Under Product Information, select Update Options > Update Now.
- If Update Now is not shown, select Enable Updates first.
- Start PowerPoint in Safe Mode
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
powerpnt /safeand press Enter. - If PowerPoint opens in Safe Mode, the problem is likely an add-in.
- Disable add-ins
- In PowerPoint Safe Mode, go to File > Options > Add-Ins.
- In the Manage list, select COM Add-ins and click Go.
- Clear the add-in check boxes, then select OK.
- Restart PowerPoint normally.
- If it opens, re-enable add-ins one at a time to find the one causing the crash.
- Repair Office
- Close all Office apps.
- Open Control Panel > Programs and Features.
- Right-click Microsoft Office or Microsoft 365.
- Select Change > Repair.
- Check if PowerPoint is blocked for a specific file
- If the error happens only with one presentation, open File Explorer.
- Right-click the file > Properties.
- If an Unblock button appears, select Unblock > Apply > OK.
- Try Open and Repair for a damaged presentation
- In PowerPoint, go to File > Open > Browse.
- Select the file.
- Click the arrow next to Open and choose Open and Repair.
- Check antivirus updates
- If PowerPoint still hangs or fails to open, update antivirus software to the latest version.
If PowerPoint does not open even in Safe Mode, the issue is less likely to be an add-in and more likely to require Office repair.
