Using New Outlook on Windows for academic communication and scheduling
If the account is being treated as a spam sender, the fix depends on whether this is an Outlook.com account or a work/school Microsoft 365 account.
- Outlook.com account
- If the account is blocked because of unusual sign-in activity, use Sign-in Helper to unblock it: Sign-in Helper.
- If prompted to verify the account before sending, complete the verification. Outlook.com does this to confirm the account has not been compromised by spammers.
- Check whether the mailbox or OneDrive storage is full, because a full mailbox can prevent sending and receiving mail.
- Try sending a simple plain-text test message with no attachments, no links, and no signature. Signatures and message content can trigger spam filtering.
- In Outlook.com, a new account can have a temporary low sending quota until credibility is established.
- Work or school Microsoft 365 account
- If the error says the sender is not recognized as a valid sender or the account is suspected of sending spam, first determine whether the account is compromised and notify the administrator.
- The administrator must then secure the account and unblock the user on the Restricted entities page in the Microsoft 365 Defender portal. After unblocking, restrictions are usually removed within one hour.
- If messages are being flagged as spam because of message content
- Remove anything that commonly triggers spam filtering, such as:
- excessive links
- URL shorteners
- embedded scripts
- image-only content
