Someone else can be sending spam with your email address. They are 'spoofing' your address ... making it look like the spam is coming from your address.

    Dear Melanie Peterson,

Based on your description, kindly try these steps:

Stop attempting to send email temporarily.

Change your password immediately, especially if you do not recognize the sent messages.

Review Outlook’s Sent Items, Deleted Items, forwarding settings, inbox rules, and recently installed apps for anything unfamiliar.

Sign out of unknown sessions and make sure multifactor authentication is enabled.

Next, please contact your IT Admin for these steps:

First investigate and secure the mailbox. Reset the password, enable MFA, review sign-in activity, inbox rules, forwarding, delegated permissions, and suspicious applications.

Open the Restricted entities page in Microsoft Defender.

Go to Email & collaboration > Review > Restricted entities.

    Search for the affected mailbox.

Select it, choose Unblock, review the recommendations, select Next, then Submit > Yes. Appropriate Security Administrator or Exchange permissions are required.

Send a new test email to one recipient.

In case you do not know who your IT Admin is, kindly refer to this article: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? | Microsoft Support

I hope the information shared helps point you in the right direction.

If the account is being treated as a spam sender, the fix depends on whether this is an Outlook.com account or a work/school Microsoft 365 account.

    • Outlook.com account
      • If the account is blocked because of unusual sign-in activity, use Sign-in Helper to unblock it: Sign-in Helper.
      • If prompted to verify the account before sending, complete the verification. Outlook.com does this to confirm the account has not been compromised by spammers.
      • Check whether the mailbox or OneDrive storage is full, because a full mailbox can prevent sending and receiving mail.
      • Try sending a simple plain-text test message with no attachments, no links, and no signature. Signatures and message content can trigger spam filtering.
      • In Outlook.com, a new account can have a temporary low sending quota until credibility is established.
    • Work or school Microsoft 365 account
      • If the error says the sender is not recognized as a valid sender or the account is suspected of sending spam, first determine whether the account is compromised and notify the administrator.
      • The administrator must then secure the account and unblock the user on the Restricted entities page in the Microsoft 365 Defender portal. After unblocking, restrictions are usually removed within one hour.
    • If messages are being flagged as spam because of message content
      • Remove anything that commonly triggers spam filtering, such as:
        • excessive links
        • URL shorteners
        • embedded scripts
        • image-only content
      • If using Outlook.com, temporarily remove the email signature and send in Plain text format as a troubleshooting step.
