edge update appears to have broken print to pdf. is there any workaround?

Microsoft Edge: 154.0.4258.37

Works:

  • Physical printers
  • Send to OneNote
  • Edge "Save as PDF"

Fails:

  • Microsoft Print to PDF
  • Microsoft XPS Document Writer
  • Adobe PDF

Same virtual printers work correctly from Chrome and other Windows applications.

Edge debug log:

Uncaught (in promise) TypeError:

Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'media_size')

source: edge://print/index.js

Followed by:

Printer: print_error_dialog.cc:63

Check your printer and try again. Printing failed.

I used a regedit to force Edge to use system print dialog. Now print to PDF works for me.

    \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome.

    Add DisablePrintPreview - REG_DWORD (32-bit) with value 1

Restarting Print Spooler services then reopening MS Edge worked for me. 😊
